We first started the OpenCloud series in 2019 with the intention of highlighting and predicting the trends driving rapid innovation (and enterprise value) in enterprise-technology markets. And we’ve done so with some success! In last year’s report, as dedicated OpenCloud readers will recall, we made a few predictions that have aged particularly well:
We anticipated that the software world would move from predictive to generative models in 2023; and that
Cut to today, we are on the cusp of real, substantive changes across the software industry, particularly given the challenging macroeconomic environment, but also due to the introduction of new, powerful technologies like artificial intelligence, which are more accessible than ever.
As we discuss in this year’s report, Silicon Valley may be at a point of reckoning at which we will have to rethink the metrics and benchmarks that have historically characterized a healthy software ecosystem. But, believe it or not, these are good, healthy changes.
